Camping & Windsurfing Info On Fuerteventura Jan/Feb 2026

 General

Arrived in Jan, it was dry and arid but got better greener very quickly.  It is different, the colour to start with very brown.  The “vibe” is still really good for campers, there seem to be quite a few of them now triple 2011 visit, but mostly locals.  It feels a lot less populated and more space than the other islands.  Further south and inland it was greener.

Campsite

Unknown not needed!

Water, Empty and Fill

Use the Park for Night on web.

Other Campers

A lot of Spanish registered ones, Germans a few British and Italian.

LPG/Gas

No Pump LPG at the petrol stations. Buy a local DISA cylinder, changing one was easy – just wherever they sell them, off lorrys, ferreterias, plus some disa garages. Some other cylinders ( Cepsa Repsol German ones can be filled at their depot in Puerto Del Rosario) expensive at 40 Euro.

TV

We found out that we got English audio transmissions, on about another 6 stations if they did English transmission as well as Spanish( if you are able to select English on you tuner).

Libraries

Used one in Corallejo, (west end of town, near the waterpark).  It has free WiFi and by showing your passport you can also borrow books, they had quite a few in English.

Shopping

Some supermarkets the Eurospars are marked as Pedilla on maps for some reason!  LIDL, ALDI, Hippodimo, Mercadona.

On food, some things were really hard to get – like some spices, never found Coriander and only Cumin in a couple of places. Tea bags double normal price.

BookSwaps

Found a few in Hotels in Corralejo, but they tended to only have 6-10 English books at a time, but good turn round.  After finding the library stopped looking so much.

Laundry

As of 2026 they are now found in the larger town/resorts.

Rubbish and Re-cycling

Plenty everywhere!

Canoeing

Some of the lagoons on the North Coast would be OK, otherwise the east coast looked possible.

Cycling

Loads.  Tracks, cycle paths, sand tracks, you name it, we saw it.

 Walking

As with the cycling – ones we have done so far:

Volcano at Lajares about 1 hour, superb views of the whole of the north shore, as well as loads of chipmunks.

Nr Morro Jable town to Cofete and back – 4 hours, about 14k (café Cofete).  You could make this a circle by going 16k on “road” (not a busy track) and then do the path back across the hill and valley, it would be about 23k in all.

La Vega to Ajuy – 8k there and 8k back – varied and good.

Pozo Negro to Las Salinas – 14k return – coast and sort of inland.

Google walks and you’ll get some info which is useful.

Windsurf

A lot of the sailing is concentrated at the top of the island as the swells come from the north and west generally,

obviously the east is less wavy in the winter months.  After March the NE trades tend to blow and then there are more rideable waves on the east side.  Places such as Sotavento also has a localised increased wind effect but is flat/choppy water.   In the north, Witchcraft boards are made in Lajares (they also repair sails)   Sotavento has the two centres of Rene Egli and a good shop that sells off 2nd hand and previous years boards and sails, some are new at a reasonable price, at the moment JP, Starboard, Neil Pryde and  Severne.

In the winter there are ALWAYS real waves, surfing, SUP and Body Boarding are the major winter activities – it’s a good place to learn, you can hire a surfboard for as little as 5 Euro a day if you have it for a week, otherwise it’s 10 Euro.  The locations vary in size of wave and there was always somewhere you could get in if you were keen enough!

Wetsuits, if you have thick and thin, then you will use both, the water is warm for windsurfing in Nov/Dec but cooled down in Jan to winter steamer weather with the wind chill.

You can pick up a “surfers map” at the shop in Lajares, has the main spots and when and how they work for both surfing and windsurfing. See the spotguide  below.

The main less or non wave spots are:  Flag Beach – you can sail without waves at certain times, but it also gets good waves.  Sotavento – basically bump and jump and lots of wind.  Caleta de Fuste (Castillo on maps as well) a quiet harbour area – not often windy enough.
